This franchise needs a fresh take and it seems like the fans will be getting an original predator film in 2022.
The prequel film to the original Predator film is set to be released next year. This film has heaps of potential, let’s take a dive into what elements we have in store this time around.
It’s safe to say the Predator franchise has been hit and miss for decades and decades. What started as a fun and goofy idea turned into a pop culture ht amongst science fiction fans all over the world. Prey will be the fifth installment in the franchise, excluding the AVP series.
The franchise has failed to find its feet following on from the success of the first film, with The Predator (2018), failing to find the right tone and missing the mark on almost all layers. Worry not, 10 Cloverfield Lane director, Dan Trachtenberg, is taking on the project as a prequel to the first film, which is something original and to which we haven’t seen before.

The series has had some big-name Hollywood directors in the past, including Iron man 3’s Shane Black and Robert Rodriguez producing the underrated yet familiar Predators (2010) with Adrien Brody as the lead.
The director, Dan Trachtenberg is an upcoming talent who got his big breakout in the effective 10 Cloverfield Lane. Let’s take a look at the plot:
Plot: The origin story of the Predator in the world of the Comanche Nation 300 years ago. Naru, a skilled female warrior, fights to protect her tribe against one of the first highly-evolved Predators to land on Earth
The plot seems completely different from all the sequels and it seems it will be set in the traditionally favored predator environment, the woods/forest, and hopefully not the nig city.
Patrick Aison will also be one of the writers, who has worked on several TV series including Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan, Wayward Pines, and Treadstone.
The cast includes Amber Midthunter who starred in Hell or High Water, Dane DiLiegro, Stefany Mathias, and Stormee Kip.
The film will be produced by Jhane Myers, who produced The Magnificent Seven, Lone Ranger, and the excellent Wind River.
Streaming
The film is set to be released in summer 2022 on Hulu and Disney Plus. It’s unclear whether or not the film will get a cinematic release.
